The Future Jobs Fund (FJF) is a government funded scheme aimed at reducing unemployment rates amongst young people aged 18 - 24, especially those that have been unemployed for more than six months.
This is achieved by assisting the employers in taking on a young person by paying their salary for 25hours per week over a period of six months, plus providing significant funding to pay for the training of young people in relevant courses. Therefore it removes the element of risk to the employer while providing young people with employment and training.
The crux of the programme is to ensure that the jobs created lead into apprenticeships. Hence the strong element of training within the scheme that genuinely helps to lift the young people out of joblessness.
CMN has placed over 50 young people in marine sector work placements throughout Cornwall and Plymouth using the FJF scheme. This has been an exciting opportunity to generate a broad range of entry-level jobs in the sector, while removing traditional barriers for young people entering work such as the time it takes to train new people.
Each young person will be supported by CMN in their career progression throughout the scheme.
