Niall Dungey, 20, from Delabole...
Former slate sign-maker
Niall had been unemployed for four months before being taken on as an
Apprentice laminator by yacht-builders Cornish Crabbers in Rock.
Now he is enjoying working alongside some of the top laminators in the South West, while acquiring skills and qualifications that will make him a real asset to his new employer.
He said: "I hated being stuck indoors all day while looking for work. I read about Cornwall Marine Network's Apprenticeship scheme on the web and was amazed and delighted at how quickly I got started, from applying and having the interviews to beginning work. It's a great opportunity and I'm really enjoying the work, plus having the job security."
Ethan Springett, 17, from Sheviock, Torpoint
Marine production suppliers
Marine Co was worried by the responsibility of taking on a new member of staff
when former student Ethan approached them for work.
The small Torpoint firm had a team of five and, while they wanted to bring young blood into the business, the current economic uncertainty made them reluctant to take the risk.
But Cornwall Marine Network was able to develop an Apprenticeship for Ethan that met Marine Co's needs, plus support his salary and training costs.

John and Spanish-born Ventura used to work together in the Caribbean a decade ago and recently met up when John, now a Cornwall Marine Network (CMN) assessor, went to assess his ‘candidate' who turned out to be his old colleague.
