Cartwheel is the most progressive rural tourism company in the South West of England. It is a private sector limited company, run by farmers, which in part, receives funding from Europe and DEFRA. The company’s mission is to serve as a trusted, vibrant brand that supports and promotes farm tourism enterprises, providing a key link with consumers.
Cartwheel’s objectives:
1. Holiday promotion
Cartwheel promotes more than 200 farm and rural businesses offering farm accommodation - B&Bs, self-catering, caravan and camping, farm shops, restaurants - plus a variety of farm attractions and countryside activities. All members are independently inspected according to the company’s unique quality criteria, which covers accommodation, local food, green tourism and sustainable land management. The primary promotion route is via Cartwheel’s website at www.cartwheelholidays.co.uk.
2. Marketing grants scheme
Cartwheel broke new ground with the setting up of the Objective One funded Rural Tourism Marketing Grants Scheme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The scheme can award up to 50% grants to fund marketing projects with a total value of up to £100,000. Small and large businesses can benefit from a swift service complete with professional advice and support.
3. Business support
Hands-on, professional business support is available from all staff and directors. Cartwheel has introduced a package of cutting-edge training workshops this year to extend practical help direct to the small business. Our marketing clinics have been well received and booked solid.
Agri-tourism is worth £205 million pounds each year to farmers in the South West region. Add to this the money spent by these visitors while they’re out and about, and it’s estimated that more than £500 million is generated for the region’s economy each year, as a direct result of rural tourism. To maintain this success and build its potential for the future, Cartwheel has applied its expertise in business development, marketing and farm diversification to become the leading business support agency for the South West’s rural tourism sector.
