Instilling confidence through competence is the purpose of the Children’s Sailing Trust. An RYA recognised training centre and On Board Partner, this imaginative charity gives children and young people from across Cornwall the opportunity to learn to sail and participate in other watersports activities on the Helford River and at their new HQ, Trevassack Lake.
Since its foundation in 1997, the Children’s Sailing Trust (CST) has taken over 9,000 young people out onto the water. In 2018 CST supported 786 participants in accessing watersports through various programmes of activity, in 2022 this had grown to 1,739 and in 2023 CST supported 2,005. Some of these children have gone on to hone their skills as teenagers through the Youth Sailing programmes, many becoming volunteers and Sailing Instructors themselves. Assisted by volunteer parents and members of the community over the years, many of these dedicated volunteers have achieved training and professional qualifications through adult RYA courses also run by CST. The Trust fundraises each year to cover the costs of providing lessons and welcomes donations from individuals and companies towards this very worthwhile community project.
